Saturday

          Glorify
          the Lord
          all you
          works
          of the
          Lord,
          praise him
          and
          highly exalt
          him forever.
Saturday Morning Prayer canticle: :The Song of Creation
                                                    A Kirk Johnson Photograph

Fun. I got my verse and came in with the thought - the surety -  that I'd use a  beautiful picture of the Grand Canyon this morning - it was a picture I got off Facebook last night. I found it in my file folder and wrote out the verse, did the sizing and placement of the letters and the colors and everything. And then the Little Voice said "But what does that have to do with you and this week-end?"  And I knew the picture to use was one of Kirk's wave shots.... I love doing  my blog - it's like a dialogue with God!

Friday Evening Prayer

Let my
prayer

up
of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

Commemoration of John Keble, English priest, 1866

V. 3&4 of "New ever morning is the love"
                                                 by John Kelbe

If on our daily course our mind be set
                              to hallow all we find,
new treasures still of countless price
                   God will provide for sacrifice.

Old friends, old scenes will lovelier be
as more of heaven in each we see,
some softening gleam of love and prayer
shall dawn on every cross and care.

Grant God, that in all times of our testing we may know your presence and obey your will ... that we may accomplish with integrity and courage what you give us to do and endure what you give us to bear                          Collect for the commemoration of John Keble

The Word became flesh

                 and dwelt among us....

The first day of Spring and the feast of St Cuthbert, Bishop of Lindesfarne

O God, the author of peace and lover of concord, to know you is eternal life and to serve you is perfect freedom ... (Collect for Peace at Morning Prayer)

Stature of St Cuthebert at Lindesfarne
St Cuthbert was born around 625 and died on this day in 687. One day, shepherding his, he had a vision of a soul being taken up to heaven. Upon learning the next day that St Aidan of Lindesfarne had died the previous day, he entered religious life as a monk, becoming finally Bishop of Lindesfarne.  When the Viking invasions began, the community moved his body to Durham where it is buried in he cathedral.

Vespers of St Joseph

I pray that, according to the riches of his glory,
he may grant
that you
may be strengthened in your inner being
with power
through
his spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith ... so that you are filled with all the fullness of God.   Ephesians 3:16-17.19

When Joseph found out that Mary was pregnant he was going to back out of the engagement. But then “an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said “Joseph, son of David. do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit... And he took her as his wife...” Matthew 1:19-21

Commemoration of St Patrick, Bishop and Missionary to Ireland (AND Eddie's third birthday!)

Before the moun-tains were br-ought forth or the land and the earth was made, from age to age
you are God. Psalm 90:2

St Patrick was born in Roman Britain circa 389. As a teen-ager he was taken to Ireland by Irish raiders, and sold as s a slave. After 6 years or so he escaped and retuned home. While in captivity, he had a religious conversion and retuned as a Christian priest and Bishop. His mission concentrated on the west and north where the Gospel had not been preached before. Patrick died in 461.
Legend has it that St Patrick taught the people the simple yet unfathomable truth of the Holy Trinity, the One in Three, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, by showing them a shamrock, a three leaf clover.

Friday

Do not let me
perish in my sin,
nor be con-demned to the depths of the earth. For you,
O Lord,
are the God of those who
repent and in me you will
show forth your goodness.
Unworthy as I am
you will save me, and in me you will show forth your goodness....

... in me you will show forth your goodness....                               Canticle 14, beloved of George Higgins
