Evening Payer

   Antiphon on Psalm 146
                       for the Visitation

Happy are
those whose
hope is in
the Lord
their God,
hallelujah.

The Feast of the Visitation and our celebration of the life of Susan Tobias (1943 - 12014) Rector at St David's San Diego 1991-2000

                                                                               Luke 1:36, 3

And now,
your relative
Elizabeth
in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month of her who was said to be barren. For nothing is im-possible with God.  Mary set out
and went with haste to Jud-
ean town in the hill country…
and greeted Elizabeth
Filled with God, where would she
hasten but to the heights? The
Holy Spirit does not precede by
                slow and laborious efforts...

Friday evening

                                   Rachelle Linner
quoted from today’s Give Us This Day
While we wait for the renewing gift
of the Holy Spirit we begin the longer training in waiting “with joyful hope” for God’s myster-
ious plan to unfold in our lives. … for Jesus
the waiting is over. His work is complete,
even as our begins.

Eve of the Ascension

                                                                   Sermon by
                                     st Augustine of Hippo

Today
our Lord
Jesus Christ
ascended into  heaven; let our hearts ascend with him…
Out of compassion for us, he descended from heaven and al-though he ascended alone, we also ascend
because we are in him by grace.

Memorial Day

                                         Based on a prayer by
                                                Leslie Wheatbread

We give you
th-anks,
O Lord,
for all who have died that we may live, for all who have endured pain that we might know joy, for all who have made sacrifices that we might have plenty, for all who have suffered imprisonment that we might know freedom. Now turn our heartfelt feelings into deter-mination, and our determination into deeds, that as countless men and women have died for peace, so we may live for peace, for the sake of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

There are fires and evacuations all over San Diego County

                                  The Great Litany
From light-ening and tempest from earth-quake, fire and flood,… from dying suddenly and unprepared, Good Lord, deliver us.

Wednesday in the Season of Easter and a full moon

This is my comfort in my trouble,
that your promise gives me life.

 Psalm 119:50

Tuesday, May 13, 2014

A very hot Tuesday

                                                        Matthew 5:14
 You
are
the
light
of
the
world.
A city built on a hill cannot be hid.

I hated not using the quote from Exodus which continues on from yesterday’s reading… It it has one of my favorite quotes in the Bible. When Moses says to Aaron WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?! his response is…. You know how evil these guys are .. they wanted me to make them gods, so I took their gold and threw it in the fire and out came this calf!! Right, Out came this calf…
For better OR for worse, a city built on a hill is right out there.
Kind of reminds me of the Clippers guy digging the hole deeper and deeper.... Sometimes it's better just to shut up.
And I speak from firsthand experience.

Evening Prayer, Page 117 in Book of Common Prayer, not as in ordinary, but as in in common, communal

                                           Colossians 4:2

Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping  alert
in it with thanksgiving.
If you don’t own a Book of Common Prayer, fist published in the mid-16th century, do yourself a favor and buy one. It's a treasure trove of prayer as well as being a jewel of the English language.

Monday Morning Prayer

                                              Exodus 32:19,20
As soon as Moses came near
the
camp & saw the calf ...his anger burned hot…. He took the calf that they had made, burned it with fire, ground it to powder, scat-
ered it on  the water and
made the Israelites drink it.

they were fishermen. And he
said to them “Follow me…”
