grant that when we hear
his voice
we may know him
who calls us each by name

The Fourth Sunday of Easter
The Benedictus
Blessed be
the Lord,
the God
of Israel,
for he has
come to
his people
and set
them free
…to shine
on those
who dwell in darkness
and the shadow of death, and to
guide our feet into the way of peace.

Evening Prayer
I Timothy 4:10
We have our hope set on the living God who is the savior of all people, especially of all those
who believe.
St Mark the Evangelist
Psalm 145: 1,2
I will exalt you,
O God, my King, and bless your Name for ever and ever.
Every day I will bless you, &
praise your Name for ever & ever.
The mystery of writing and readings is … something that has become so common that we have ceased to be aware of it... It is forgotten that the Gospel is enclosed in the letter of the Bible and must be freed.

Friday night
Luke 5:12-13
Once when Jesus was in
one of the cities, there
was a man
covered with
leprosy. When he saw Jesus … he begged him “Lord, if you choose, you can make me clean.” Jesus stretched out his hand. touched him
and said “I do choose. Be made clean.”
In the Episcopal calendar today it is a Day of Remembrance for the Armenian Genocide of 1915, also known as Martyrs Day, remembered as the first genocide of the 20th century.
Easter Antiphon
on Psalm 105
The Lord
has been
mindful
of his
covenant,
the promise
he made for
a thousand
enerations,
hallelujah.
Almighty God, protect those who fall victim to the forces of evil [in our world] … and give us the courage to stand against oppression and hatred

Thursday night
Luke 5:4
Jesus said
“Put out
into deep
water and
let down
your nets
for a catch. “
And still
today
he says:
Put out
into deep water…
Don’t stay near shore in the shallows

Collect of the Day
O God, whose Blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread, Open the eyes of our faith, that we may be-
hold him in all his redeeming work
hold him in all his redeeming work
Easter faith says that Christ appears in the poor, the lame, and the dying, and if we don’t see him there, then we will shouldn’t expect to see him anywhere else.

Saturday Morning
Daniel 3:24
"Was
it not three men that we
threw bound
into the
fire?
…But I see four men, unbound & walking in the middle of the fire & they are not hurt, & the fourth
has the appearance of a god."
Let the fierce fires which burn and try,
our inmost spirits purify:
consume the ill; purge out the shame;
O God, be with us in the flame; a newborn people may we rise,
more pure, more true, more nobly wise.

Phos hileron
You are
worthy
at all
times
to be
praised
by
happy
voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.
Friday!
Easter Antiphon
on Psalm 16
You
will
show
me the
path of life, hallelujah.
I really like this picture
with this verse- it’s taken out near Campo and reminds
me of my husband Gordon and the railroad going through Carrizo Gorge. But more than that, it is Easter, the ulti-mate the coming out of the darkness into light. There is another picture taken farther back in the tunnel but all you can see is the brightness of the light ahead, and when I look at it I find I'm still holding my breath, at least metaphorically. Here you’re coming out into the sunlight - there’s even a little green grass.

You will show me the path of life:
in your presence of fulness of joy,
& in your right hand are pleasures for evermore. (v 11)
I am reading a little daily book of snippets from Madeleine L’Engle called Glimpse of Grace (which puts me in mind of our friend Bill Mahedy’s book Traces of Grace) I haven't gotten as far as today's yet. I still have to go back and finish Morning Prayer: But here’s a neat quote from yesterday:
" I enjoy [my faith] because it’s true, not necessarily factual, but true. If it's factual, I don't need faith for it."
