 Stephen was chosen 

to be one of the first 7 

deacons in the just form-

ing church. He was ston-

edto death by the re-

ligious authorities - the 

 first person martyred for 

Christ. (That didn’t take 

long…)  And Saul of Tar-

sus, the future Paul who

never knew Jesus before 

the  resurrection, watched approvingly.  Who KNOWS how things fit together in God's sight… We only see the back of the tapestry to quote our friend Carol.  (And so often we take that mess for the thing itself!)
