The Commemoration of Richard Hooker, Priest 1553- 1660

Do not be afraid little flock;

it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Grant that we may maintain
                        this middle way,
not as a compromise
                  for the sake of peace,
but as a comprehension
                  for the sake of truth.
                        Collect: Richard Hooker

This is the exact opposite of the sentiment of the quote I heard recently which typifies much of what is deadly in politics today: “Ideology has not need to deliberate.”

All Soul's

                                                                                         Wisdom 3:1-3

The souls of the right-eous are in the hand of God and there no torment shall ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish their departure was thought to be a disaster,
and their going from us
to be their destruction,
but they are at peace.

Friday

                                                                           Psalm 40:12

I waited patiently upon the  Lord; he stooped to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the desolate pit, out of the mire and clay; he set my feet upon a high cliff
and made my footing sure.

All Saints Day!

                                                                             Hymn 287 v.5

And when the strife is fierce, the war-fare long, steals on the ear
the
dis-tant tri-umph song, and heart are brave again, and arms are strong.
Alleluia, alleluia.
