Cry aloud, inhab-itants of Zion, ring out your joy, for the great one in the 
midst of you is the Holy One of Israel.
The new Lutheran Book of Festivals recommends praying today * for scholars who revere and pass on the heritage of learning, * for integrity of character in teachers  and students, and * for those who revise and improve the 
church's liturgy. 
                          Almighty God, in a rude and 
     barbarous age you raised up your deacon 
     Alcuin to rekindle the light of learning: 
     Illumine our minds, we pray, that amid
     the confusions and uncertainties of 
     our own time we may show forth 
    your eternal truth....
