*Sam Shoemaker was on the Church calendar yesterday.
An Episcopal priest (1893-1963) he was influential in the founding days of AA,. In later years he likened the Fellowship to first century Christianity, and in the church is "remembered for his empowerment of the laity." Though known to Bill W & Dr Bob, the co-founders of AA, who met through him, and surely beloved of them, he is not, as the collect suggests, considered a"co-founder," In keeping with AA's tradition of non-affiliation, he, along with the whole pantheon ofe arly influencers -the Jesuit Ed Dowling, Dr Silkworth, Sr Ignatius, Dr Carl Jung - were critical in the formative days, and help us still.
