Alban, Britain’s first martyr, was a Roman soldier who was converted by a priest ”fleeing from persecution.” When officers came to his house, he put on the priest’s garments and gave himself up. It was traditionally thought to be c 304 but may have actually been 209!

Sunday evening

                        Psalm 19:4, 8, 12
In case we are inclined to miss it….

   The
   Lord
   of hosts
   is with us,
the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

An ordinary, if hot, summer Sunday

                             Confession at The
                                  Daily Office
Most
merci-ful
God,
we
have
sinned
against you
in
thought,
word,
and
deed
We
have
not
loved
you
with
our
whole
heart;
we
have not
loved our
neighbors
as ourselves.
"Forgive our sins as we forgive,” you taught us, Lord, to pray: but you alone can grant us grace to live the words we say.
Lord, cleanse the depths within our souls, and
bid resentment cease; then, reconciled to God and
man, our lives will spread your peace.
