Into
your
hands
I commend
my spirit,
for you
have
redeemed
me,
O Lord,
O God
of truth.
Psalm 31:5 This verse was such a comfort to sit with this morning, the last words that Jesus uttered before he died - not “quoting scripture” but repeating words that had long become part of the fabric of his life. Being a good Jew, he knew the Psalms, he prayed and repeated them as we do as liturgical Christians saying the Daily Office. Sometimes it seems boring and I think “Oh no, not This one again!” But repeated over and over they become part of what Bill Mahedy calls the deep memory and they can therefore spring to life in times of need.
