St Simon and St Jude
Confession the Daily Office
We have
not loved you
with our
whole heart,
we have
not loved our
neighbor
as ourselves... What would it look like to love You
with our whole heart, You whose service is prefect freedom?
Back again.... I went and read the first lesson for today and, to love God, to hear God, is the opposite of when the word is for us "precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, there a little." (Isaiah 28:11, 13) This has never made any sense to me, until right now. I was not going to Do the readings for today's feast because it all seemed "precept upon precept, line upon line." And now I know that such times are a big red flag! Or at least a big stop sign..... "One who trusts will not panic." (28:16)
Back again after the second reading.... "I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beg you to live a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, and making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of of peace. The gifts that he gave....were to equip the saints for ministry, for building up the body of Christ.." (Ephesians 4:1-6, 11, 12) "O God, we thank you for the glorious company of the apostles... " (Collect of the Day)

Early Tuesday
Psalm 5:3
In the morn-ing, LOrd, you hear my voice; early in the morning.
I make my appeal and watch for you.
This is not my first time around with this verse. But One of the things that I love about the Psalms is that every time its different.; they are never stale unless I am. Having lived with the verse for a couple of hours, and having been to a meeting that encourages me to live this thing one day at a time, I see more clearly. God not only wants to hear my voice in the morning, but I need to make my appeal And, having done that, i have to watch and wait and be attentive for His reply... And not just for the brief period of mediation but throughout the day. It's something I can expect. I can count on. I can bank on it.

Found a quote on my desk...
We
don't
solve
our
deepest
problems
by better
discipline
but by
better
discipleship.
Rowan Williams, 104th Archbishop of Canterbury
Morning still
Micah 6:8
He has told you,
O mortal, what is good: and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love
kindness and to walk humbly with your God.

Friday
Psalm 102:1, 2b, 3
Lord, let my cry come before you; hide not your face from me
in the day
of trouble...
make haste
to answer me. For my days drift away like smoke and my bones are hot as burning coals...
As Christian people we live in the light of Easter, but still in the shadow of the cross, in a world that is transitory, which sounds so much nicer than passing away... As My Ellfeltd, my grade school teacher and music director at St Matthew's used to say, we need to “Keep the em-PHA-sis on the right syl-LA-ble,”
