  with with his brother Basil the Great and  Gregory of Nazianzus, one of the famous Cappadocian Fathers. The sudden deaths in 379 of his sister Macrina and his bro-ther  Basil  “while stunning Greg-ory also  freed him to develop as a deeper and richer philosopher and theologian.”  Which reminds me of 2 things: of the Souvenir I collect-ed one day long ago at a meeting  “Adversity can be seen as God decluttering your life so you can see what is essential.” (Which I can on occasion.) And just presonally that this is the anniversary of our car accident  in 1989 which resulted in Gordon’s quadriplegia.
