Monday Evening, June 24, being the Nativity of John the Baptist

            I Do love this story - it’s so many layer-

ed!! Remember, this is the birth of  Jesus’ cous-

in John. Mary, newly pregnant went to be with 

Elizabeth (who was in her 6th month after being 

barren & now both she & her husband Zech- 

ariah are old.)  Nonetheless she is pregnant.

            Meanwhile, taking his turn as priest

at the evening sacrifice, an angel prophesies

 about the coming birth. SAY WHAT? Zech-

ariah said and was struck dumb. (There are 

times when God needs to get our attention)

            When the child is born, they ask Eliz-

abeth what the baby’s name is and she says 

what the angel had told her to name him: 

John. Which causes a furor. JOHN?! Silly 

woman! Where did you get that!? Nobody in your family is named  John - you should call him Zechariah after his father.  What doss SHE Know? So they MOTION to Zechariah, as f he was both Deaf AND dumb! They give him a tablet and he writes:  His name is John 

And his tongugue is loosed.
