Almighty God, we thank you for the strength encourage of Georg Freeman Bragg, who rose from slavery to freedom, documented the African-American history and helped to found the first advocacy group for black people. Grant that we may tell the story of your wondrous in ways that proclaim your justice in our own time…                                   - Collect

Today we remember Conrad Weiser, 16196–1760, 18th century American diplomat who worked for peace and reconciliation between the American settlers and the native people of Pennsylvania.

In his book A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life., William Law says ”If we are to follow Christ, it must be in our common way of spending every day.”  He apparently took his own counsel: he was ”such a stellar defender of the poor,... that it so offended the local Vicar that he preached a sermon denouncing 

such a discriminant charity.”! 

Pray this day

for all who by their writing & example, help Christians to pray. For the church’s work among the poor & needy.  For those who suffer at the hands of  oppressors. For grace that our may lives may reflect our prayers. (All thanks to TheNew Lutheran Book…)
