    1880- 1965,  the first 

woman to serve  in a 

Cabinet position in the  

US government,  she was  

Roosevelt 's Secretary of 

Labor and platyed a major 

role in “The New Deal.”   

     Help us, following her example,  

        to contend tirelessly for justice and

             for the protection of all in need -Collect

comfortless,

your Holy Spirit 

to strengthen us

                      As I went about my Sunday morning

                chores, watering the yard and filling the

           bird feeders, it struck me that the plea is that

      we not be left alone/abandonned/on our own. 

   But what we need most is strength.

   The span

   of our life  

   is 70 years, 

   perhaps in 

   strength 

   even 80…   

   yet they 

   pass away 

   quickly and 

   are gone… So 

   teach us to number our days, that 

   we may apply our hearts to wisdom.

                                 *Hmmmm… this is the frst time 

                                 I have read this psalm since turning 

                     70, which gives it a new poignancy for sure!
