Today in the Episcopal Church we commemorate Henry Budd, who served among the Cree in Western Canada. who died in 1875. An orphan, the date of this birth is unknown, he is the first person of First Nation ancestry to be ordained priest in the Anglican tradition.

                                                         Psalm 80:1b

         shine
         forth,
         you
         who
         are
         en-
        throned
        upon the cherubim.

Grant that
his example
may call us
to reverence,
orderliness
and love

Evening of the 21st

 O Dayspring
Bright-
ness of
the Light
eternal
and Sun of Righteousness; Come and enlighten
those who sit in darkness and
the shadow of death.

St Thomas the Apostle

  Job 42:5

I have
heard
of you
by the
hearing
of the ear
but now
my eye
sees you.

I am so grateful to St Thomas. He teaches me, then reminds me year after year, that most of my job is just  showing up, just being there, (especially when times are hard) whenever “there,”happens to be. In the family. At church. In them community. Which is sometimes absolutely as much as I can do - and more. And if I blow it one time, that's not my only chance. AA keeps it simple:  “Suit how up and  show up.”

O Antiphon for tonight, Tu, Dec 20.

                                 O Key of David,
 & Scepter of
the house of Israel, you
open & no one can shut, you shut & no
one can open:
Come and
bring the cap-tives out of the prison house, those who sit in
darkness and the shadow of death.

The Tuesday before Christmas

                                                         Isaiah 11:16

There will be
a high-way from Assyria for the remnant that is left
of God's people, as there was for Israel
as they came out from the land  of Egypt.

                     The O Antiphon

   O
   Root
   of
   Jesse,
   you
   stand
   as an
   ensign
   to the
   peoples,
   before you kings
   will shut their mouths,
   and nations bow in worship;
Come and deliver us and tarry not.

Today we remember Lillian Trasher, 1887– 1961, missionary in Egypt, who dedicated her whole life to caring for orphaned children.

  Psalm 62: 1

My
soul
for
God
in
silence
waits

the early 1900s

among Egyptians
simply as “Mama
