Canticle 10
Seek
the
Lord
while
he
wills
to be
found;
call upon him when he draws near.
Yesterday on Facebook I posted the Karl Barth’s quote that we need to pray with the Bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other. (Thank you Google! Now we can all appear smart and well read…) And that is as true today as it was then - maybe more so though the image may need to be updated. Bill Mahedy’s grandson was over one day and saw his grandfather reading the morning paper - a daily and well loved habit. "Grammy, he said “What is Grampy DOING?” Carol, thinking it was self-evident, replied " He’s reading the news-paper” What’s that?” came the reply …. As with our Holy Scripture, images need to be updated and interpreted to be understood, but the fact remains that we need to live our lives and to pray with the Bible in one hand the daily news in the other, whatever way we get that.
Come all who thirst. Come to the Waters. Seek the Lord... Biblically with Love and newspapery with Horror. I have promised Glory unto You. You hall be saved.
My favorite readings ,Isaiah 55. You shall go out, YES, You shall go out with JOY. Sounds of Cello, French horn. Bass guitar, Bassoon, Bass trombone, muted Trombone, tenor saxophone .... Lovingly. Jeff Watkins
