Psalm 90:12
teach
us
to
number
our days,
that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.
Samuel Seabury
was born in Connecticut in 1729.
He was a chaplain in the British Army during the American Rev-olution. When he elected Bishop, he had to go to England to be conse-crated - in the Episcopal Church ya need 3 bishops to consecrate, just in case one had slipped by who was out succession with the apostles! He spent a year in negotiations in England, but being an American, he could not swear allegiance to the King, so it was no dice. He ended up going to Scotland and it was there, in Aber-deen, that was consecrated Bishop on this day in 1784. (Then he had to sail back home! No small thing becoming Bishop!)
Pray for the people who died and were injured yester-day in Paris as they went about their lives, and for their friends and family. Pray also for the French people and government in the face off these terrorist attacks.
