Today we remember Thomas Gallaudet (1822 –1902) a pioneer in education of the deaf, who founded The American School for the Deaf in 1817 and began the ministry to the deaf in the Episcopal Church. He was ordained priest in 1851. His friend friend and protégé Henry Winter Syle, (1846–1890) who in 1876, became the first deaf person to be ordained a priest in this church.
