Psalm 62:1a
For
God
alone
my
soul
in silence waits.
A Prayer of St. Chrysostom at Morning Prayer
Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common suppli-cation to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them:*Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come
life everlasting. Amen *This is one of the important l if unheralded changes in the 1979 BCP… In preceding Books of Common Prayer.. as in common supplication… …the phrase was incorrectly translated as “you will grant their requests” which was actually a conflation of 2 separate passages… The promise is not that God will do what we request but that he will be there come what may which is actually a bigger promise….
