Canticle at Morning Prayer
Surely
it is
God
who
saves
me,
I will
trust
in him and not be afraid.
in him and not be afraid.
Today we remember 3
individuals who were prophetic witnesses
and reformers of society:
Walter Rauschenbusch
(1861- 1918) minister and theologian for whom the king-dom of God, was “Not a matter of getting individuals to heaven, but of transforming life on earth into the harmony of heaven. “
Washington Gladden
(1836-1918) minister & one of the earliest & most influenial proponenmts of the "Social Gospel" and
Jacob Riis
( 1849- 1914)
Danish émigré to the US, journalist & "muckraker", social com-mentary photographer
Loving God, you called us to do justice & love kindness… May we to ever be mindful of the suf-ferings of those who are poor and work diligently for the reform of our communities-Collect

Treat yourself to reading the whole of the 22nd chapter of Numbers…. It was a favorite of our friend Bill Mahedy’s - he’d say “If God can speak through a jackass, he can speak through me/us.”
