        Be

  strong
 and let
     your
    heart
     take
courage

all you who wait for the Lord

   1796-1877,  priest
    and Anne Ayers,
1816-1986, religious
Originally Lutheran,
(well, he  was German!)
Muhlenberg “was drawn
to the Episcopal Church by its use of English.” (Yea BCP!)  Their work together led to the founding of St Luke’s hospital in New York City, staffed by The Sisterhood of the Holy Communion, which she founded and was“first sister.” It was the first American order for women to be founded and lasted until 1940.
 God of justice
   and truth,
 do not close
your eyes to
the plight of
the poor and
the  neglected,
the homeless
and destitute, the old and this sick, the  lonely and those who have none to care for them. - Collect

They also “cooperated   in founding St Johnland on the north shore of Long Island, an attempt to transplant families into an  intentional Christian community far from the squalor of late 19th centurry NYC.” Ther e is now a non-profit nursing care facility there, and they are both buried at the St Johnland Cemetery,
also in King’s  Park NY,
