41 years, and also rememebred as a social reformer, cultural, anthro-pologist & founder  of the Serampore College & University, the first degree awarding University in India. He translated the Bible into Bengali & Sanskrit & the New Test-ament in the other Indian languages

St Luke’s Gospel  is marked by
a special concern for the poor, the margin-alized, women, and social outcasts. He had the most vital sense of God‘s pres-ence in ongoing history, which is
why the story does not end  at the resur-rection and ascen-sion, but Luke con-tinues in The Acts of the Apostles, with Pentecost, the missionary journeys of Paul and the ongoing story of Christ’s presence in the life of the church and in the midst of the world. (From the inimitable  Give Us This Day)   Each of the Evan-
have a symbol. Luke’s is a winged ox
(from Ezekiel)
an animal of sacrifice, but
one with wings.
Matthew’s sym-bol is a winged man, Mark’s, a  winged lion, and John, an eagle.  Hah! It took me 69 years to realize that the eagle is the only one that is naturally winged !

as rain +
snow fall
from the
heaven +...
water the
earth; Bring-
ing forth
seed for
sowing +
bread for
eating, so
is my word
that goes forth form my mouth; to will not return to me empty

*Clare of Assisi, 1194-1253
    founder of The
     Poor Clares
     We become
    what we love
   + who we love
shapes what we become.
   If we love things,
  we become a thing.
  If we love nothing,
  we become nothing.
   Imtation is not a
   mimicking of Christ,
rather it means becoming
             the image of the beloved,
an image disclosed through transformation. This means we are to become vessels of
  God's compassionate love for others.

                             _________________Acts 9:18__

“Br-other Saul, the Lord Jesus, who app-eared to you on your way here has sent me to you to regain your sight and to
be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Without being conscious of it,
I guess I have always seen the conversion of Saul into Paul
as his being knocked off
his horse.
had never real-ly recognized this as an in-dispensable part of a single story. AT first held back by fear and doubt, (“You want me to WHAT, Lord?”)
Anan-ias is the indispensable second actor in Saul’s conversion. And we have a repetition of Jesus’s command: “Unbind him…” The interaction of the human and the Divine. God begins and then we can (and must) play our part. Without that the healing is not complete. This pat-tern is seen in each and every instance of recovery from alcoholism for sure!
