John Henry Hobart (1775 - 1830) Bishop of New York in the early days of the American Episcopal Church

                            Picture: I Kings 19:7*
                              Verse: Psalm 55:24

   Cast
   your
   burden
   upon
   the Lord
   and he will sustain you.
*Poor Elijah has run away from Jezebel who has vowed to kill him &, sitting down under ”a solitary broom tree” (a main source of shade in the desert) he prays to die. Falling asleep, an angel awakens him (this is actually the second time the angel ahas awakened him!) & says “Get up and eat, otherwise the journey will be too much for you.” Journey? But he does (DUH!) and in the strength of that food he travels 40 days and night to Mount Horeb.
“Revive your Church, O God of hosts, whenever it falls into complacency &sloth by raising up faithful leaders.. and grant that their faith and vigor of mind may awaken your people to your message & our mission…            - Collect of the Day
In his first four years
s Bishop of New York, Bishop Hobart doubled the number of his clergy & quadrupled the number of missionaries.
He died 2 days short of his 55th birthday & is buried beneath the cancel of Trinity New York.
