 mercy

 & who was & who is to come.  

Alfred the Great 

was added to the Episcopal Calendar 

with the 1979 Prayer Book revision. 

His life was marked by the Viking in-

vasions and settlement in Eng-land. He 

was able to stem the the tide of those 

invasions, and was “brought to a troubled 

throne that he might establish peace in 

a ravaged land and revive learning and 

the arts among the people.” (Collect)

Pray 

for those who are 

in a position of authority 

in government, the law, 

industry, and commerce, 

for all places of learning  

and for the British Royal 

Family.
