_The Venite__
O
that
today
you
would
hearken
to God’s voice!
Throughout the world, in monasteries and kitchens,
in convents and in priest’s studies whether nestled
in gardens or atop a high rise, in hermitages and
parish churches and cathedrals, in mountain or
desert or by the sea, old vices or young, the Daily
Office begins with The Venite. I hear the high tones
of the now gone Sisters of the Holy Nativity as day
dawned in Santa Barbara, replaced now the low tones
of the Brothers of the Holy Cross, priests and laity alike, they are bothers joining in prayer to God as
we begin a new day.

This is the hymn that came to mind.
It is for the evening but as it suggests,
evening is morning somewhere else
on this round earth as we spin in space.
