of mercy

Daniels 1939 - 1965

was a 26 year old Episcopal seminarian killed protecting Ruby Sales during the civil rights struggles in the 

American South. Despite being traumatized

by the shotgun blast that killed Johnathon & in spite of death threats to her and her family,  Ruby later testified at the trial of the man who killed him & she remains a living legacy of those struggles against racialhaterd and violencew which we continue fight as we face the latest virulent outbreak of white supremacist violence in our country.    

                   (The killer was acquitted
               by a jury of 12 white men &
             died in 1997 at the age of 86.)
