Absolution at
Morning Prayer
Almighty God… strengthen
us in all
goodness
&…keep us
in eternal life.
Thurgood Marshall, (originally Thoroughgood: he shortened it to in second grade because it was a pain to spell!) was born in 1908, the son of a railroad porter and a teacher, and the grandson of a slave whose father was born in modern day Republic of the Congo. An Episcopalian, he became a lawyer and a civil rights activist and, from 1967 until his death in 1991, an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court He was the 96th justice and its first African-American., and was succeeded by, … Clarence Thomas.
"In recognizing the humanity of our
fellow beings, we pay ourselves
the highest tribute."
"None of us got where
we are solely by pulling ourselves up by our
bootstraps. We got here because somebody -
a parent, a teacher, an Ivy League crony
or a few nuns bent down and helped us
pick up our boots."
Beautiful. Thank you.
