The First Sunday after the Epiphany, being the Baptism of Jesus.

                                          

                                   The Baptism of Jesus* 

    

      Jesus 

      rises 

      from 

      the

      waters; 

      the world rises with him. 

Jesus rises from the water. Rise we too. The Holy Trinity is not a concept or a fabrication but a revelation that we see and know, or glimpse. "A taste and a sip" as Bill Mahedy once said.  John doing what he is called to do, but who never would have imagined  this:  Jesus, the Son enfleshed, the Father, speaking, the Spirit descending.

Holy Jesus! every day keep 

us in the narrow way, 

and, when earthly things are passed, 

bring our ransom souls at last 

where they need no star to guide, 

where no clouds thy glory hide
