Saints Peter and Paul,
he first apostle called
at the beginning of
Jesus' ministry and
the last, and only
after Jesus’ death
& resurrection; one
pictured with keys.
the other ,a sword;
both together pivot-
al in the early church,
and both martyred at Rome, having each stood firm upon the one foundation. There’s room for all of us.
It is
the God
who said
“Let light
shine
out
of
darkness”
who has
shown in our hearts...
Tomorrow we celebrate Saints Peter and Paul,
both martyred for their love of and witness to
Christ. Peter, the fisherman was called early
on by Jesus and Paul, the Christian killing,
raging zealot who was only called after the
resurrection when he was literally knocked
off his high horse by his call. I found this
carving buried in the side garden. John of
Tom and John fame who told me that it is
St Paul by his sword. It takes all of us, such a
diverse, motley, exasperating, wonderful crew.
Surely
it is God
who saves
me; I will
trust in him
and not
be afraid.
For the
Lord
is my
stronghold
& my sure defense,
& he will be my savior.
The
Lord
said…
“Take
the
sandals
off your feet,
for the place where
you are standing is holy ground.”
Grant
that we,
walking in
the way of
the cross, may
find it none other
than the way of life and peace
Which reminds me of Helen said again and again
over the years &d decades she was my
sponsor, “God didn’t bring us this far
to dump us on our heads.”
So far, so good.
Next step!
In the
tender
compassion
of our God,
the dawn
from on
high shall
break
upon us,
to shine
on those who dwell in dark-
ness & the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into
the way of peace.
_________Almighty God, Father of all mercies…we give you thanks…for our
creation, preservation, & all the
blessings of this life,…for the
for the means of grace &
for the hope of glory
I read Evening Prayer and got nothing.
The collect for tomorrow. Nothing.
Mell, maybe I could make do with ....
…. but what about an image?
And God asked, quietly
Did I give you a verse?”
“ No."
"Then you don’t have one.
Satisfy us
by your
loving-
kindness
in
the
morning;
so shall we rejoice
& be glad all the days of our life.
And on our civil calendar, it is the 166th anniversary of Juneteenth, our newest
national holiday , when the news of the end of
slavery finally reached Galveston Texas 2
years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Pray that this
brings us
one step
closer to
being
truly
the UNITED States of America,
from sea to shining sea.
