Easter Evening

                                                                              John 20:19
 When
it was evening of that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and  stood among them
and said “Peace be with you. “

You have beheld.
   You have been strengthened
             You have been changed.

      Christ is rien,AllĂ©luia!

Evening Prayer of Holy Saturday. The only time I can think of when Evening Prayer is not the first Vespers of the Feast...

Holy Saturday antiphon on  Psalm 27

I believe that I shall see
      the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.

  Behold  Be strengthened  Be changed

Holy Saturday

                             Psalm 88:12

Will your loving-kind-ness
be declared in the grave?  Your loving-kindness in the land of destruction?

Something strange is happening - there is a great silence on earth today, a great silence and stillness. The whole earth keeps silence because
the King has fallen asleep.

Thursday evening

                            Mark 14: 19
when they were eating, Jesus said “Truly, one of you will betray me,
one who is eating with me.” They began to be distressed and to say t him, one after another,                                            “Surely not I?”

Evening Prayer

I Corinthians 11:2

As often as
we eat
this bread
drink
this cup,
we proclaim
 the Lord’s
death until
 he comes.

Maundy Thursday, and so the Three Great Days of the Triddum begin.

                          Mark 14: 23-25

Then he took the cup and after giving thanks,
he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it. He said to them, “This is my blood which is poured out for many. Truly I tell you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until I drink it new in my Father’s kingdom.”

  Behold  Be strengthened  Be changed.

Evening Prayer

                                  Antiphon on the Magnificat

Now
is the
judgment
of this
world …
and I,
when I
am lifted
up from
the earth,
will draw the whole world to myself.

  Behold  Be strengthened  Be changed

Wednesday in Holy Week

O Lord,
I bend the
knee of

Evening Prayer

                                                      Nunc, dimitus

Lord, you now have set your servant
free to go in peace
as you have promised

During this Holy Week

 Holy Week Antiphon
           on Psalm 94

They
conspire
against
the life
of the just,
and condemn
the innocent
to death.
The LA Times headlines said “Kansas shooting suspect has a long history of hate"”
And out of that hatred, presumably, he shot to death the three people at a Kansas Jewish Community Center
and retirement complex. A sad irony
is that all of his victims were
Christian, though targeted presumably
because he thought they were Jewish.

As we celebrate Passover and prepare to celebrate Easter, may we be reminded that
we are all children of one God, and of that
God’s command to Moses that we love God
with all our strength and with all our heart
and with all your soul.  And our neighbor as ourself. Even this poor, misguided son-of-a-
bitch, for whom Christ died.

Tuesday in Holy Week

 The Benedictus
Blessed be
the LORD,
the God
of Israel;
for he has
come to
his people
and set
them
free

Behold Be strengthened Be changed

Evening Prayer

                                                                     2Corinthians 1:3-4
Blessed be
the God
& Father
of our Lord
Jesus Christ,
the Father of
all mercies & the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we are able to console those who are in any affliction
with the consolation with which we
ourselves are consoled by God.

Monday Morning Prayer in Holy Week

                                       The Venite (Psalm 95:8)

Harden
not
your
hearts
as
your forbearers did in the wilderness….

     Behold  Be strengthened  Be changed

                        Antiphon on the Magnificat
It is writ-ten,
I will strike the shep-herd and the sheep will be scattered. But after I have risen I will go before you into Galilee.

Palm Sunday

                                                      Psalm 29:14
The Lord
will
give
str-ength
to his
people, the Lord will give
his people the blessing of peace.

The Eve of Palm Sunday

                            II Corinthians 4:16

we
do
not
lose
hope.
Though our outer nature
is passing away, our inner
nature is being renewed day by day.

Saturday, the day of my birth

 Psalm 42:2a

My
soul is
athirst
for God,
athirst
for the
living God.

George Augustus Selwyn (1809-878) Bishop of New Zealand and Litchfield, which latter he accepted only reluctantly.

                             Collect for Friday
                                     at Morning Prayer
Merci-fully
grant that
we, walking
in the way
of the cross, may find it none other than
the way of life and peace

In 1841 Selwyn was elected Bishop of New Zealand and on the voyage from England he learned Maori so upon his arrival there he was able to preach to the people in their own language. Bishop Selwyn also preached
                      at our General Con-
                      vention in 1874.

                                                          Psalm 131:3

it myst be in our common way
of spending every day.... “

William Law
“God is not remote from us.
He is at the point of my pen,

    Psalm 119:165a

Great
peace
have

beneath the wheel,
but also to put a spoke
in the wheel itself.”
Pray" for those whose  names are not remembered who, with Bonhoeffer, resisted tyranny.."

Collect against Perils

Be
our
light
in the
darkness,
O Lord..

Frederick August Muhlenberg, Priest (1796-1877)

                                          Psalm 121:1 & 2

I lift up my
eyes to the hills;
from where
is my help
to come?
My help
comes from
the Lord,
the maker of heaven and earth.

Prayers are suggested
For the poor, the neglected and the unemployed, the sick and those who suffer.
For St Luke’s Hospital in New York which he founded.
For a deeper understanding of the Holy Communion as the spiring of Christian life.
For those who improve the quality of hymns in he church (YEA!) and
For a broad and tolerant spirit throughout the church.
