The Visitation

Blessed
are
you
among
women
and
blessed
is
the
fruit of your womb.

The Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth

Two women meet,
cousins but more than kin -
bound now to one another
by pregnant surprise.

Their unpredictable God
     has laughed at nature
 and made the childless
     and the virgin bear.
She of the leaping womb,
      though barren,
bears the restlessness of God.

And the virgin unknown
becomes the magnifying glass
that makes great her God for all to see.

First Vespers of the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Elizabeth

Christ
has
only
one
mother
in
the flesh,
but
we
all
bring
forth
Christ
in
faith.

Ambrose of Milan
When the angel revealed his message to the Virgin Mary he gave her a sign to win her trust . He told her of the  (pregnancy) of  (her cousin Elizabeth,)  an old and  barren woman to show that God is able to do all that he wills. When she hears this Mary sets out...  Our friend Ambrose of Milan still,  in his commentary on Luke...

   O Lord,

   fixed
  my
  hope

                                          Psalm 38:12

Wednesday

When the unclean spirit goes out of a person, it wanders through waterless regions looking for a resting place, but it finds none.
Then it says to itself, “I will return to my house from which I came. When it comes, it finds it empty, swept and put in order. Then it goes and and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they they enter and live there, and the last state... is worse than the first...
 Matthew 12:43-45

Tuesday Two

As for what
was sown
on rocky ground,
this is the one
who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet such a person has no root,
but endures
for a while,
and when trouble
or persecution
arises on account
of the word,
that person
falls away.
