George Augustus Selwyn (1809-878) Bishop of New Zealand and Litchfield, which latter he accepted only reluctantly.

In 1841 Selwyn was elected Bishop of New Zealand and on the voyage from England he learned Maori so upon his arrival there he was able to preach to the people in their own language. Bishop Selwyn also preached 
                      at our General Con-
                      vention in 1874.
