Today we remember Niclaus Copernicus and Johannes Kepler, astronomers, 1543.

                     Antiphon on Psalm 25

Lead
me
in
your
truth,
O Lord,
and
teach
me.

Pray today for all
astronomers &
watchers of the
skies: for math-
ematicians & all
lovers of numbers,
for all scientists
who explore the
beauty of number
& order; for cour-
age pursue truth,
for humility awe
in the face of mystery, & for a new vision
of the beauty of creation.

I love this explanation in The Lutheran New Book as to the inclusion of Copernicus: was "not notably devout, but his ideas ultimately required Christian-ity to expand its understanding of size of the universe & to come to terms with the position of the Earth not at the center, but as part of the solar system that is on the fringe of the universe. Copernicus thus taught Christianity a new kind of humility before the cosmos."
