have  
rescued 
my soul 
from death and my feet from stumb-ling, that I may walk  
bfore God in the land of the living.

Emily Dickinson, 
born  in 1830, died 
on this date in 1886,  
Her poetry, ("my letter 
to the world, that never wrote to me")  which she shared only with a few     
         friends, was discovered after her death.

Hope” is the thing 
     with feathers – 
that perches in the soul – 
and sings the tune 
    without the words -   
and never stops - at all.

The author of today’s meditation in Give Us This Day, says “in an increas-
ingly mobile world, Jesus invites us to sink our roots into the reality 
of God's indwelling presence,” which con-
nects nicely back to our friend Emily who 
is charmingly described in the blurb about 
her  in the same publication, as as a 
“stationary pilgrim.”
