Saturday Evening Prayer

                            Mark 14:44-45

 …the
betrayer
had given them a sign
saying,
”The one I will
kiss is
the man;
arrest him, & lead him away under guard.”
 So when Jesus came,
Judas went up to him at once
& said “Rabbi!” & kissed him..

Saturday, August 29th

                                  Psalm 20:7

Some My
put
their
trust
in chariots
and some in horses,
but I will call upon the
Name of the Lord our God.

45 years ago August 29 was also a Saturday,
a very special day:

and the reason that the family is here … I mean the existential reason for this. tinker would exist without today but we would not be family without this day.
My cousin asked where I was - here I am! In each picture, the mother is missing ... first me and then Tinker! Fitting, don't you think???!

For Evening Prayer

                                Mark 14: 35

and he pray-ed that, if it were possible, the hour
might pass from him…

St Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, d. August 28, 430

                                                  Psalm 16: 6, 7b

My
boundaries
enclose a
pleasant land,
indeed I have a goodly heritage.
My heart teaches me night after night.

“Sin is
looking for
the right
 thing in the
wrong place.”

Pray for the churches
in North Africa:  For those who search for the truth especially young people who are struggling to find meaning; For their lives. For Teachers, For those who  defend the faith; for a deeper love of Scrip-ture.

A hot evening in late August

                                                         Psalm 18:29

         You
         O
         Lord,
         are
         my
         lamp;
         my God,
         you make my darkness bright.

Today on the Episcopal Calendar we remember Thomas Gallaudet and Henry Winter Style

                               Psalm 18: 1a, 2a

love
you,
Lord,
my strength,
My rock in whom I put my trust.

 Thomas Gallaudet (1787- 1851)
is called The Apostle to the Deaf  His ministry too the deaf in the Episcopal Church began one day when he looked out a window and saw children playing, but not with one little deaf girl who stood alone.

Thomas Winter Style
(1846 –1890) was his student and parishioner who became the first deaf person to be ordained in the Episcopal Church.
Pray for all who are deaf and hard of  hearing, and for their sense of isolation, for those who cannot hear the voice of their loved ones, the
songs of birds, the sound of the ocean or the spoken Word of God.

    time to die
    drew near,
    he prayed,
    "Blessed be
    the Lord,
    the God of
    Israel, who
    today has
    granted
    one of my
    offspring to
    sit upon my throne and
    permitted me to witness it.
And he charged his son Solomon,
    saying “Be strong, be courageous,
& keep the charge of the Lord your
God by walking in his ways

                          Psalm 67:7

The Feast of St Bartholomew, The Apostle,

                                                              The Venite
                                                  At  Morning Prayer

Oh, that
today you would hearken to God’s voice!
 Like
most of the original 12 apostles, Bartholomew
is nearly a forgotten figure
We know very little about  Bartholomew historically
… The reason the Church commemorates him,
and all The Twelves, is not for their individual
identitie , but of their apostolic call.” (Give Us This Day)
                                         Wtoo,
by our baptism, are called and sent, and we promise to “continue in the apostles teaching and  fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in the prayers.” (BCP Pg 304)

it has set traps for me along the path.
