John Mason Neale (1818-1866) Priest, Hymnodist and Translator

                                              2 Samuel 12: 1-7*

And
Nathan
said to
David,
    “You are the man.”
         * Why stories and parables are so important…they come in the unguarded back door and surprise us with the truth that we would otherwise deny.

John Mason Neale was an English priest and hymnodist who  translated countless medieval and ancient hymns from Latin and Greek. More than 30 of these translations are included our 1982 Hymnal., including the Palm Sunday hymn “All Glory Laud and Honor.”  He was lso was  “an active supporter of the Oxford Movement in its revival of medieval liturgical forms” and “As a humanitarian, he founded The Sisterhood of St Margaret for the relief of suffering woman and girls."

I include his likeness because
behind every stained glass like-
ness is a flesh and blood person
who strove and fought and failed
and got up again and lived and died
for the Lord they loved and knew …
