And so,
because it
was the Jewish
day of Prepara-
tion and the tomb was nearby, they laid him there.
I was so struck by this sentence as I
narrated John’s Passion for Holy Week.
Then tonight I was further struck by who
it is who are so hastily getting Jesus life-
less body safely out the harm's way.
(What would have become of it they
hadn’t?) Is it Peter, keeper of the keys
and John the beloved disciple? Hardly.
It’s Joseph of Arimathea, a guy with
resources and connections, and a
“secret disciple for fear of the religious
authorities” and Nicodemus who “had
at first come to Jesu by night.”
We all have a place.
