St Athanasuis, c. 275-373 Bishop of Alexandria

                              Canticle 10
…as rain & snow fall from the heaven & return not again, but water
the earth, Bringing forth life and giving growth, seed for sowing and bread for eating, So is my word that goes forth from
my mouth; it all not return
to me empty...
St Athanasius, a champion of orthodoxy against the Arians who denied the full divinity of Christ, “your eternal Word, who took upon himself our human-ity that we might share
his divinity, (Collect)

Prayers are suggested in the wonderful Lutheran New Book of Commemorations...
   For a deeper knowledge
   of Jesus Christ as
   the Son of God.
For tireless pursuit of the truth,
          even when the majority opposes.
    For reconciliation between quarreling
    parties in the church.
            For single-minded devotion.
