William White (1747-1836) First Bishop of Pennsylvania, chief architect of the Constitution of the American Episcopal Church, and, in 1789, first Presiding Bishop. Elected again in 1795, he served until his death in 1836.

Put your trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land and feed on its riches. 

“O God, in a time of  turmoil and con-fusion and you raised up your servant William White, and endowed him with wisdom, patience and a reconciling temp-erament that he might lead your church into ways of stability and peace: Hear our prayer and give us [in our time] wise and faithful leaders that your people may be blessed and your will be done. ..” 




Currently serving, elected in 2006, is Katharine Jefforts-Schoir, the first female PB
