Shrove Tuesday (And the date on which Bill Mahedy, an Augustinian monk, was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in 1963)

                              Psalm 26:8

Lord,
I love the house in which you dwell, and the place where your glory abides.

The tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday is based on the idea of con-suming all the fat in the house before the Lenten fast begins tomorrow on ash Wednesday.  "Shrove" is the past tense of the verb shrive/shriven, an archaic word, (but not practice) of confessing to another and being forgiven.
