George Augustus Selwen, 1809 – 1878

                                              The Venite

The sea is God’s for he made it,
and his hands have molded the dry land.

George Augustus Selwen,
was elected the first Bishop
of New Zealand, and later
the Bishop of Litchfield
(great  juxtaposition!)
the latter he took only
reluctantly.

            On his long journey
             New Zealand in 1841
            (which would have taken
             anywhere from 75-130
             days) he learned the
             Maori language.

Dude got around –
he was in aAmerica
twice and was the
preacher at our1874
General Convention
