Today we remember Alphage, Archbishop of Canterbury, and martyr,  954 -1012.

have 
come 
not to 
abolish 
but to 
fulfill. 
 Alphage  (Aelfheah) became Archbishop of Canterbury in 1005 and in 1011 he was captured piratical Vikings.  “Much stirred against the  bishop because he would not promise them any (ransom) … Also much drunken, the Danes … shamefully killed him.”

Grant that all pastors 
of your flock may pattern 
themselves on the Good 
Shepherd, who laid down 
his life for his sheep

Pray  for all who are murdered in our own day because a ransom  
will not be paid; for all people facing persecution and the violence of the world;  For our own enemies; For those who hurt others; For those who find it difficult to forgive.  The intercessions as usual, though I do not always say so, are from the (New Lutheran Book….
