Yesterday was the Feast of Alfred The Great, King of the West Saxons (849-899)

Surely 

it is God 
who saves me, 

I will trust in him and not 

be afraid

   

Alfred the Great,

 the first English King,  

ruled during the Viking invasions & occupation. 

In the last years of his reign he was able to repair some of the damage the Norsemen had been done to 

culture and learning .
